While work slows down during the summer for many businesses, we’ve been busy at Fulfillment House. We celebrated a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Kearney Chamber of Commerce commemorating the launch of our new Print-for-Pay service. It was a great turnout, and the associates enjoyed visiting with guests from the community and showing off our operation. Our associates filled 8,208 orders in May and 9,443 in June. We also worked hard to fill the shelves with pre-packed inventory in preparation for Charles Payne’s orders.
In addition to packing and shipping orders for our existing customers, we began fulfillment for Wonderword. This word search company has been in business since 1970 and sells a popular line of word search books.
“We were really excited to add Wonderword as a customer at Fulfillment House,” said Executive Director Kurt Hamilton. “New clients diversify our revenue stream, but they also allow our associates to perform different tasks and build new skill sets. Many of our employees enjoy a new challenge and the change in routine.”
Fulfillment House was also fortunate to receive a generous donation from Clinton County Senate Bill 40 in June. Visitors from the organization came to tour Fulfillment House and brought along several iPads and sensory items for our associates to use. These items will help them continue to build independence and also provide relief on stressful days. We are already putting the items to good use and are thankful for the generous donation!
When we weren’t filling orders, we enjoyed working with flowers. Associates made “flower bombs” to give to the remarkable women in their lives for Mother’s Day. We also planted flowers in the pots outside our building and surrounding businesses and have been watering and caring for them.
Our big quarterly event was a trip to Shatto Dairy Farm in Osborn, Missouri. Everyone had the chance to pet different farm animals, learn how Shatto milk is processed, sample unique flavors of milk and other dairy goodies, and enjoy a scoop of Shatto’s delicious ice cream. We also enjoyed a picnic on the patio before heading home.
“We love the opportunity to take trips like this,” said Operations Supervisor Abigail Deiter. “We want the associates to know that their hard work is appreciated, and this is one way we can recognize that. These chances to socialize and spend time together relaxing outside of work mean a lot to everyone here.”
